Ringing Rocks

acrylic, 2012; 27″w x 33″h

Robert Lowe grew up in the New Hope/Lambertville area and studied art history while attending Swarthmore College. He is strongly influenced by the American Impressionists and has always been an explorer of museums, galleries, and cultures. As a result, his influences are varied. He mainly uses oils and watercolors. Additionally, he works with photography, and periodically uses pastel and other drawing mediums. He is a Signature Member of the Garden State Watercolor Society, and shows with AOY, New Hope Arts, the Medford Arts Center, Arts and Cultural Council of Bucks County, the Annex Gallery of Smithtown NJ, the Philadelphia Sketch Club, and various Mercer County venues.

“Perception is personal. Light, color, line, and movement in combination are evocative, and often somewhat surprising, whether triggering a feeling or presenting novel image. I find that art also carries embedded values, sometimes extremely subtle, at other times quite obvious. When I paint or draw, I am usually led by light and composition. The subjects I choose are simply what I find to be interesting at the time. The various mediums I explore permit me to express how light plays on different forms and how color balances, contrasts, and travels through a scene or an image. Each piece exerts its own influence in the process of creation for me. I find my work bending to the influence of the subject matter in my practice. As a result, my subjects often have a common style, although I do not.”
