About my work

An overview

Here‘s a short video in which I talk about my art background and discuss my approach to painting.

The Work Party: Green Truck with Balls and Blue Balloon

Oil on canvas, 2024. 24″h x 36″w.

It’s always exciting to come across a “new” toy, such as this old metal Tonka Auto Transporter that I recently discovered at an antique shop. Because it’s essentially hollow, it helps contribute to the illusion of space, while allowing me to distribute color in an interesting way. The spotlight bulb suspended from a string at the bottom center was a last-minute addition, and serves to both anchor the piece visually, as well as suggesting more activity beyond the picture plane.

Recently completed: The Work Party: Boxes with Balls, Balloons, Jack and Snail. Oil on canvas, 2024. 36″h x 36″w.

Paintings by Frank Rivera

Saw a terrific show of selected paintings from 1994 to 2024 by Frank Rivera, one of my favorite professors at Mercer County College back in the 70s. The exhibit was at Swig Arts Center on the campus of Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ, and ran through Oct 5, 2024.

This short documentary film discusses Frank’s work and process, and I’ve also shared a couple of pictures of the work that was on display.
